Simon Makwela is a pioneering South African media executive and tech innovator with over two decades of industry experience. His career began as an award-winning photographer, earning a Silver Loerie Award in 2005, and has since garnered multiple SAFTA nominations for film and television work, including the film “Meet The Radebes.”

As the inaugural Head of Post Production at Moja Love TV, Simon was part of the team that led the channel’s growth from 150,000 to 3.2 million viewers in just 15 months. His portfolio includes work for major broadcasters like SABC, MNET, and Honey TV, as well as commercial content for Aljazeera, USAID, and various national organisations in South Africa.

A committed educator, Simon conducts workshops for organisations including the Gauteng Film Commission and Film and Publications Board. He speaks at international platforms like French South African Tech Labs and ENRICH in Africa, mentoring entrepreneurs and emerging professionals in storytelling and media relations.

As Director of Maureen Grace Investments, Simon oversees a diverse portfolio spanning media, entertainment, hospitality, and tech. He also serves as a non-executive director at Edgepoint Software.Simon holds a BSc in Computer Science from Midrand Graduate Institute and is pursuing an MBA at The Gordon Institute of Business Science. Fluent in English and SeTswana, he brings a multicultural perspective to his work,embodying the intersection of creative excellence and business acumen in South Africa’s media and technology landscape.
