Nina Swart

Having started her career as an actress of stage and screen as well as a television presenter, Nina Swart went from playing leading, well-loved and formidable characters on screen, to becoming a celebrated director and one of the few accomplished women DOPs in South Africa. Best known for her character of Wilmien de Lange in one of SA’s longest running soap opera’s, 7de Laan, she also enjoyed leading roles in shows such as Known Gods, Interrogation Room and Die Boekklub.

But it is her career behind the camera that has made her become an experienced and formidable director of scripted and unscripted titles, particularly across Afrikaans-language productions such as Die Byl, Die Boekklub, Fynskrif, Troukoors, Fraksie, Boer soek ‘n Vrou, Plaasjapie, Kelders van Geheime and most recently, Tuiskoms, which is now streaming on Netflix.
