Mpho Sekhoto
Mpho’s journey from Alexandra Township in Johannesburg to the international cricket stage is a remarkable story of talent, determination, and vision. Scouted by Dr. Ali Bacher, the then CEO of the United Cricket Board, Mpho’s potential was recognized early, leading to a bursary at King Edward VII School and a career that spanned from junior to senior cricket with Gauteng. At 18, while still in matric, he signed his first professional contract, and over the next decade, he represented various clubs in the UK, including stints in England and Scotland. His cricketing achievements, including SuperSport Series victories and being named Young Player of the Year in 2002, cemented his legacy as one of South Africa’s top cricketers.
After retiring in 2013, Mpho pivoted to sports management, using his vast experience to empower athletes and shape the next generation of stars. His credentials include CSA Level 2 Coaching certification, roles as a TV analyst, and as a licensed cricket agent with CSA/SACA. Beyond cricket, Mpho’s influence spans across multiple sports, with a leadership role in SLK Sports Management and work as a talent manager at Openfield Marketing. As a member of the SACA Agents Representative Council, he advocates for the growth and protection of athletes’ careers, continuing to inspire both the sporting and business communities with his unwavering dedication to excellence.
