Jean Baker

NOBODY LEAVES ‘til Jesus Comes is Jean Barker’s first feature. It screens on the 13th and 15th March at JFF. Born and raised in South Africa – where she has unshakable roots and returns often to reconnect and work – Jean left a successful career as a journalist and columnist for California to pursue her filmmaking dreams. Her sci-fi MFA thesis short film ONE MORE DAY, which starred the late, great John Heard, won a student DGA Jury Award and she’s since made many other award-winning shorts, as well as music videos and commercials, created and published an afro-futuristic graphic novel named Zana, and worked in the writers room for an online game. With finished features and pilots in her writing portfolio, Jean is back in South Africa to pursue one of the scripted projects burning a hole in her pocket.
