The Joburg Xchange (JBX) is the industry-focused centrepiece of the MultiChoice-sponsored Joburg Film Festival—a boutique, results-driven B2B marketplace dedicated to accelerating the development, funding, co-production and global distribution of feature films, episodic television, and documentaries Made in Joburg for Africa and the World. Designed to emphasise quality over scale, JBX embraces the “Small is Beautiful” philosophy, creating an intimate yet impactful environment that facilitates meaningful connections among filmmakers, financiers, distributors and talent. It is also a one-stop hub for leveraging South Africa’s world-class studio facilities, cultivating relationships with top-tier talent, and tapping into the country’s international co-production treaties.
JBX is built on three interconnected pillars: JBX Business, a marketplace connecting buyers, sellers, distributors and producers; JBX Talks, a series of panel discussions, masterclasses and presentations featuring leading local, African and global industry professionals; and the JBX Youth Programme, an initiative for aspiring filmmakers aged 18 to 25 that offers mentorships, workshops and access to industry events. This holistic approach ensures that both emerging and established creators have the resources, networks and inspiration to bring fresh narratives to life.
The JBX Content Market will be held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg from 12 – 14 March 2025. Attendees can look forward to exhibition stands, original projects, sport-themed content, The Young Voices Competition, thought-provoking talks, and a vibrant suite of youth-focused workshops. Beyond these core offerings, JBX will explore broader industry dynamics—co-production opportunities, monetising creativity in the digital age, the impact of new tech and VR, and the expanding role of African talent—further cementing its status as a premier destination for film-industry innovation and collaboration.
