Charlie Samson
From four years of intensive performance training and the success of the award-winning theatre play, “THE KAFFIRS,” emerged Charlie Samson, a visionary director and writer. His journey has been a quest for artistic glory, one that has been uniquely shaped by his background in drama, despite never formally studying film or television. Rather than simply labelling himself as a director or writer, Charlie identifies as a storyteller, recognizing the extraordinary nature of weaving captivating narratives. Hailing from KwaZulu- Natal, Richards Bay, Charlie Samson’s passion for the film and television industry ignited at the tender age of 15. His storytelling ethos is grounded in portraying authentic, unfiltered reality without any dilution. He views his greatest strength as his ability to listen keenly, valuing the art of improvisation and the beauty of collaborative efforts.
Above all, Charlie Samson places the narrative at the forefront of his creative endeavours, crafting stories that resonate with everyday people rather than catering solely to the tastes of fellow filmmakers. With over a thousand hours of making prime-time television- (in soaps-drama series-tv movies) under his belt, he has embarked on the exciting path of independent filmmaking. His debut offering, “A LAMENT,” draws inspiration from his own life, offering a deeply personal perspective. Currently, Charlie Samson is in post-production for his second indie film, “MY MOTHER LOVES MY FATHER AND THAT MAKES ME SAD,” in collaboration with his creative partner, Mazi. Their shared vision promises to deliver more compelling stories that captivate audiences far and wide.
