Muneera Sallies

Muneera Sallies, a multi-award-winning filmmaker with 20 years of experience, has made significant contributions to the film and television industry. Her diverse body of work includes having written, produced, and directed a variety of content, while also participating in filmmaking panels and hosting creative masterclasses worldwide. Most recent projects include directing on the acclaimed drama series ‘Melody,’ co-writing and directing the feature film ‘Twisted Christmas,’ as well as Directing on the True Crime series ‘Into Darkness with David Klatzow.’ Her feature film ‘Old Righteous Blues’ has garnered critical acclaim going on to win various awards at the Silwerskerm Film Festival held in Cape Town, South Africa, as well as winning multiple international awards, including Best Director and Best Leading Actor at the Romford Film Festival in London, winning best Art Direction and Best International Film at the Charlotte Black Film Festival in the USA as well as winning best Supporting actor at the Panther City Film Festival USA. ‘Old Righteous Blues,’ was also South Africa’s official selection into the 97th Academy Awards (Oscars). Amongst her many accolades, Muneera also received the Most Innovative Contribution of an Artist/Organisation in Film, Audio-Visual, Interactive Media, and Photography at The Western Cape Cultural Affairs Awards 2023. Sallies’s character-driven stories and unique storytelling style reflect the essence of South African culture. She is committed to mentorship through her work, embodying a strong belief in supporting emerging talent in the industry alongside serving as a Commissioning Editor for Premium Scripted Content at MultiChoice South Africa.
