JBX YOUTH PROGRAMME

Early Bird Activation: 3rd December 2024

JBX Youth focuses on emerging talent and aspiring filmmakers aged 18 – 35. The programme, which runs in the lead-up to and during JFF, offers screenings, director Q&As, skills-building workshops, filmmaker forums, mentorship opportunities, and the Young Voices Competition. JBX Youth aims to equip young filmmakers with the tools they need to succeed in the film and television industry.

10:00 - 11:30 Masterclass: Directing Unlock the art of storytelling through film in this exclusive Master Class in Film Directing. Designed for aspiring and professional filmmakers, this intensive session delves into the core principles of visual storytelling, creative collaboration, and leadership on set.

Participants will gain insights into:
  • The director’s role in shaping narrative and emotion.
  • Techniques for working with actors to achieve authentic performances.

12:00 - 13:00 Panel Discussion: The Future of African Cinema This panel discussion will explore the evolving landscape of African cinema, highlighting emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities. African filmmakers are increasingly asserting their voices on the global stage, yet they navigate unique challenges including funding limitations, distribution barriers, and representation issues.

Key topics of discussion include:
  1. Technological Innovation: How advancements in digital tools and streaming platforms are reshaping production and distribution.
  2. Storytelling and Authenticity: The importance of preserving African narratives while appealing to diverse audiences.

Participants will also learn about the importance of collaboration, innovation, and storytelling with African narratives in global cinema.

The MTF will also present unique opportunities such as:
