The Joburg Film Festival

JFF is now in its fourth year and was born out of the desire to create an independent platform that not only tells Africa’s stories, but showcases and rewards the continent’s and international excellence in film. The Key objective is to curate, elevate and celebrate a strengthened local and African film and entertainment industry, that recognises talented works and their creators. The extended Joburg Film Festival programme centres around three important elements: • The Film Programme • The Industry Programme • The Youth and Audience Development Programme


Timothy Mangwedi


Founder and executive director of the Joburg Film Festival. Mangwedi is an entrepreneur with extensive experience in the arts, media and marketing world.He began his journey at various big brand multinational corporations before he branched out into business and cultural entrepreneurship.

Bongiwe Selane

Festival Director

Award-winning producer who has produced across several mediums, including commissioned serial content for Pay-tv M-Net, multiple short films, a documentary series and the box office hit, Happiness is a Four-Letter Word.

Nhlanhla Ndaba

Project Manager

Nhlanhla worked as production manager and curator for a number of film festivals from 2003 to 2019, including Encounters Documentary Festival, European Film Festival (Johannesburg Leg) and as Johannesburg Festival Director for Out In Africa Gay & Lesbian Film Festival and Co-Director for Tri Continental Film Festival and Programme Manager for the Joburg Film Festival.
